Welcome to the website for

1899 Panhard et Levassor at the Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse Museum

This website contains information about the 1899 Panhard et Levassor car that is owned by the Norfolk Museums Service and kept at the 'Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse' Museum of Norfolk Life at Gressenhall, just north of East Dereham in Norfolk, England. This is, we believe, the oldest working car in Norfolk.

The purpose of this website is to tell you about the car and the work of Team Panhard, the volunteers who maintain and run the car on behalf of the museum. It replaces the original Team Panhard website which was created nearly twenty-five years ago.

The History pages contain a brief history of the car and Team Panhard.

The Driver’s Overview gives you an idea of the differences between driving a modern car and a veteran car.

The Mechanical Overview provides some detailed information on the construction and operation of the car.

The Maintenance pages give details of some of the major projects the Team has undertaken to ensure that this elderly car continues to run smoothly.

Under  Resources you will find a description of what it is like to drive the Panhard and further background information. The museum also holds an extensive archive relating to the car. If you have any photographs, press or other articles, memorabilia or historical information or documentation relating to our Panhard we would very much like to hear from you. Please contact us either by e-mail or write to us at Gressenhall (see the Contact Us page).

Team Panhard also has a Facebook page where you can find information about the Team’s activities and events we are attending.

The Team is grateful for both the support given by the Museum staff and for the financial support provided by the Friends of Gressenhall towards the maintenance of the car.

Please note that the website is not currently designed for use with a mobile phone but we hope to address that in the near future.
